A Banana and Strawberry Energy Packed Smoothie Recipe
Delicious Smoothie Recipe!
For a great tasting banana smoothie, simply blend the following together:
- 1 cup of low fat milk.
- 1 tablespoon of low fat pro-biotic yogurt.
- 5-6 strawberries.
- 1 banana.
- 1 heaped teaspsoon of Smoothie Greens.
If you feel adventurous, then add a natural cinnamon stick or shake some powdered cinnamon on top for a smoothy with that extra bit of zing!
Strawberries are good for you because...
Strawberries are an amazing berry. They are Vitamin C rich and also are packed with fibre, folate (also known as Vitamin B9 - also found in dark greens) and potassium.
Vitamin C helps to protect the body from infection and toxins. Fibre helps to lower levels of so-called 'bad cholesterol' in the blood, as well as being an excellent digestive aid.
Folate is one of the water-soluble B Vitamins and is essential for the healthy development of the nervous system and to maintain the health of red blood cells. Folate occurs in many foods including nuts and dark, green, leafy vegetables but it can be destroyed through over-cooking.
Potassium is an essential mineral for health. It helps with heart health, muscle contraction and helps to maintain normal kidney function. Potassium can be found in most fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, fish and poultry.
